In their second match of the BPL 2022 on January 22, 2022, Chattogram beat star-studded Dhaka. Chattogram Challengers batted first and scored 161 runs against Minister Group Dhaka. Apart from Tamim, no other Dhaka batters could make valuable contribution to the chasing of this challenging target. As a result, Dhaka’s innings stopped at just 131 runs and Chattogram won by 30 runs.

Dhaka got off to a good start

Dhaka got off to a good start while chasing 162 runs in the second innings. 42 runs came from the opening pair of Mohammad Shahzad and Tamim Iqbal. However, Tamim’s contribution there was immense. Only 9 runs came from the bat of Shahzad, who was dismissed by Mukidul Islam in the seventh over.

However, Tamim continued to score runs with Jahurul Islam in the second wicket partnership. In the meantime, he picked up his 42nd fifty in the T20 format. He scored those runs with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Tamim, however, could not make that innings big. He was bowled for 52 runs while playing Shoriful’s slower.

Dhaka collapsed after Tamim’s dismissal

After Tamim’s dismissal, the batting line up of Dhaka simply collapsed. In the end, Isuru Udana‘s 16 and Shuvagata Hom‘s 13 runs only reduced Dhaka’s margin of defeat. Dhaka were bowled out for 131. Chattogram left the field with a 30-run victory.

Nasum Ahmed bowled superbly

Nasum Ahmed bowled superbly in two spells. This left-arm spinner proved why Chattogram has included him in the team as an ‘Icon’ player. He took 3 wickets giving away only 9 runs in 4 overs.

Chattogram had a poor start in the first innings

Earlier, after losing the toss at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Chattogram had a poor start in the first innings. In the first ball of the third over of their innings, Kennar Lewis returned to the dressing room. The West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman was dismissed for 2 runs after being trapped leg before wicket by pacer Rubel Hossain.

Jacks played a brilliant innings

On the other hand, Afif Hossain could not extend his innings despite getting life twice. Later, Afif shared a 48-run partnership with Will Jacks to help the team overcome initial disaster. Jacks played a brilliant innings of 41 off 24 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. After that, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Sabbir Rahman formed a great partnership. Together, they added 44 runs to the scoreboard.

Howell was impressive at the end of Chattogram innings

Once again, Benny Howell was impressive at the end of Chattogram innings. The right-hander scored 37 off 19 balls with 3 sixes and 1 four. At the end of the stipulated 20 overs, Chattogram got a collection of 161 runs.
