Sydney Thunder grabbed fifth consecutive win
Teammates clapping on Daniel Sams’ half-century. Sams and Hales batted remarkably. As a result, Sydney Thunder grabbed fifth consecutive win.

Sydney Thunder grabbed fifth consecutive win over Melbourne Renegades by a huge margin at Marvel Stadium in the Docklands area of Melbourne. Rather, it is good to say that the Melbourne Renegades maintained their habit of losing by a big margin. As a matter of fact, the list of top five embarrassing (largest) losses in the Big Bash League contains the name of Melbourne Renegades four times.

Outstanding performance by Daniel Sams and Alex Hales

Sydney lost the toss and elected to bat first. Eventually, they scored a massive 209 runs for 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Daniel Sams and Alex Hales crushed the host to set up a winning target of 209 runs for Melbourne. Sams remained unbeaten on 98 runs off 44 balls with the help of 7 fours and 8 sixes. Alex Hales played an outstanding innings of 63 runs with 3 fours and 5 sixes in just 28 balls.

Renegades collapsed

In reply, the Renegades were all out for just 80 runs in 14.2 overs. James Seymour scored 25 runs, while Aaron Finch and Kane Richardson both scored 17 runs. Shockingly, no other batsman of the host side managed to reach a double digit score. Although Shaun Marsh had started off well, the massive blow hit the host when he got run out in the third over. The collapse of Renegades continued as the host skipper lost his wicket a few balls later in that over.

Hasnain and Sandhu bowled well

Mohammad Hasnain took 3 wickets for 22 runs and Indian-origin Gurinder Sandhu took 2 wickets for just 8 runs off 3 overs.

Player of the match

Unanimously, Daniel Sams was the player of the match for his outstanding contribution to the victory of Sydney. His total impact points in the match was 129 followed by Hales with 105 points.
