Australia will host The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 competition this year. And they are ready to receive all participating cricketing countries to contest for the upcoming world cup event.
Venues
The T20 World Cup was initially meant to be held in India but was moved to UAE, Oman, and finally to Australia. The tournament will feature 16 teams from different countries contesting for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Recently, ICC also confirmed the venue: Melbourne, Hobart, Geelong, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, and Perth. However, the final will take place under lights at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13 November 2022. While the Sydney Cricket Ground and Adelaide Oval will host the semi-finals on November 9 and 10, respectively.
Contenders
The seven venues will host a total of 45 matches in this tournament from 16th October to 13th November. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 champion Australia, the first runner up New Zealand, and South Africa, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, England, and Afghanistan have gained automatic qualification into the super twelve stage. West Indies, Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Namibia will also play in the first round. While a qualification process will select the other four countries.
Preparation of the host
Australia is trying to put everything in place: the resources to be used, environmental protection, transportation, and even accommodation options. ICC will release the fixture on 21st January 2022. And the qualification process will run till May. The competition will feature the world’s best players from 16 cricketing nations. And it’ll be one of the Australia’s largest and most significant sporting events. The T20 fans will be able to buy tickets from 7th February, 2022.
Covid19 caused disruption
The Covid19 pandemic disrupted the plan to arrange the tournament in 2020. However, the disruption opened a perfect opportunity to bring the competition, for the first time, to Australia. At the same time, cricket fans around the globe have to wait longer to watch all the matches live at their homes.
Eighth edition of T20 World Cup
This will be the eighth edition of the T20 World cup. Australia, being the T20 champions of 2021, has proved itself capable of carrying out the 2022 edition of the tournament. The tournament comes in less than 11 months and will be one of the top events in the sporting world, eagerly awaited by the fans. Whilst the excitement about the World cup is on, ICC encouraged the fans to keep an eye on the fixture and secure their slots of the tickets.
