In the final of Vitality Blast 2021, Kent beat Somerset to secure second title.

Kent beat Somerset to secure second title of the T20 Blast or Vitality Blast competition. Kent Spitfires won the final quite convincingly, thanks to the excellent innings from Zak Crawley and Jordan Cox. They beat Somerset by 25 runs in the final in Birmingham on Saturday. Batted first, Kent scored 167 runs for 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Somerset stopped at 142 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Good first wicket partnership for Kent

Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl on the day. Kent got off to a good start batting first. Zak Crawley and Daniel Bell-Drummond put on 44 runs on board in 5.2 overs in the first wicket partnership. During this time, Bell-Drummond scored 18 runs and Crawley scored 41 runs off 33 balls.

Jordan Cox magic overcome middle order failure

Joe Denly and captain Sam Billings of Kent flopped in the middle order and the score stuck at 75/4. From here, Jack Leaning and Jordan Cox took charge of the innings. And put on a big stand for the fifth wicket. Leaning scored 27 runs and Cox scored an unbeaten 58 off 28 balls with three fours and three sixes. As a result of Cox’s explosive innings, Kent set a target of 168 runs for the opponent. Roelof van der Merwe took three wickets for Somerset in the match.

A bad start for Somerset in chasing

Chasing the target, Somerset got off to a bad start. Somerset lost two early wickets for just three runs. Tom Banton could not even open his account. Will Smeed and Tom Abell put on 58 runs in the third wicket partnership. Abell scored 26 runs off 20 balls and Smeed scored 43 runs off 32 balls.

However, after these two batsmen got dismissed, the Somerset innings scrambled along. They lost 7 wickets for 95 runs. Craig Overton scored 13 and Josh Davey totalled 16 runs in the lower order but could not win the match for Somerset. Joe Denly took three wickets for Kent on the day.
